Saint Joseph's capped off a disappointing 2012-2013 regular season with a loss to Charlotte by a score of 52-40. The loss drops the Hawks regular season record to an underwhelming 17-12 and 8-8 in Atlantic 10 play. To put this as nicely as possible, the Hawks played absolutely atrocious tonight to finish a disappointing regular season.
Saint Joseph's shot a pathetic 29.2% from the field on the game, and an unfathomable 13.6% from 3-point range. To cap off a terrible night of shooting, the Hawks only shot 60% from the charity stripe which is simply unacceptable. The Hawks took a 19-18 lead into the locker room at halftime in the low scoring affair, but were outclassed and outplayed in the second half. The 49ers outscored the Hawks 34-21 in the second half to take the game and add another disappointing loss to the Hawks resume. Not a single player had a good game for the Hawks tonight, but then again it's hard for someone to have a good game when the team only scores 40 points.
Langston Galloway had 13 points while also grabbing 6 rebounds in the loss. Ronald Roberts Jr., C.J. Aiken, and Carl Jones each contributed 8 points respectively, while Roberts also had 8 rebounds and Aiken had 7 boards in the contest. Aside from those four players, the other Hawks only combined to score a pathetic 3 points. Tonight was by far a culmination of a bad and disappointing season. The Hawks now enter this weeks A-10 Tournament as one of the lowest seeds and needing to run the table and take the tournament title and the automatic bid that accompanies it if they have any aspirations of going dancing. A season that began with high hopes has now come to a close with nothing but disappointment. Saint Joseph's barely qualified for the conference tournament and has left it's fans full of disappointment and anger. It's time for Phil Martelli to begin planning for the future and give young players a little bit of time in the tournament game to get a squad that only loses one starter after this season prepared for the 2013-2014 season. The Hawks will be back in action later this week in A-10 Tournament action, with their contest depending the final standings in the conference. THE HAWK WILL NEVER DIE!
