Phillies Bats Sting Rays

The Phillies topped the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 10 to 1 in this afternoon's contest at Bright House Field.  The Phillies pitchers had a very solid outing on the day, but it was the hitters who truly stung the Rays.
The Phillies scored their 10 runs with the help of 13 hits in the game.  Veterans Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley each had a 1 for 4 day at the plate.  The middle infield duo appears to be rounding into form as Opening Day rapidly approaches.
Ryan Howard and Dom Brown continued their torrid springs, with Howard going 2 for 4 at the plate and Brown going 3 for 4 respectively.  Each scored 2 runs in the game, while Brown collected an RBI as well as 2 doubles.  After a solid spring from Howard and Brown, the Phillies middle of the order is looking more formidable than had been previously anticipated.
The Phillies reserve infielders accounted for the majority of their 10 runs on the day.  Freddy Galvis and Kevin Frandsen each collected 3 RBI's on the day.  Galvis hit his third home run of the spring while Frandsen collected his sixth double.  Both have had a good spring, and could be crucial in the Phillies success this season as fill-ins for the aging infield.
The game was pieced together on the mound by the Phillies bullpen, who only allowed 3 hits on the day.  Raul Valdes received the start and pitched 3 innings while allowing a single run on two hits.  Michael Stutes was next on the mound and threw one hit less inning.  Jeremy Horst took over next and allowed the Rays their last hit of the day, as he threw 2 innings of scoreless ball.
Four Phillies pitchers would combine to pitch 3 hit less innings to finish off the game.  Colby Shreeve tossed 1 inning of scoreless baseball while walking 1.  Antonio Bastardo threw 2/3 of an inning while striking out 1 before Steven Inch came on to get the final out of the inning.  Jonathan Papelbon finished things off with 1 perfect inning that saw him strike out 2.
After a solid outing on the mound from the Phillies bullpen pitchers, and some great hitting from the offense, the Phillies topped the Rays by a score of 10 to 1 as Spring Training begins to wind down.  The Phillies will face the Tigers tomorrow as Opening Day rapidly approaches.
