The Saint Joseph's Hawks absolutely dominated the Rhode Island Rams on Senior Night at Hagan Arena. The Hawks dominated from the outset, and finished with an 81-44 victory in the final home game for senior guard Carl "Tay" Jones. The win improves the Hawks to 17-11 on the season and 8-7 in Atlantic 10 play before their final game of the regular season against Charlotte. In a season that begun with NCAA Tournament aspirations, the Hawks have little hope remaining. Barring the team winning the A-10 Tournament and receiving the automatic bid that comes with it, it is highly unlikely that the Hawks will make the tournament at this point. Tonight's win was a glimpse into the potential of a team that returned every player from a year ago, and was a nice final home game to send off the seniors.
The Hawks efforts in the contest were led by big man C.J. Aiken who returned after missing the previous contest due to back and wrist injuries. Aiken had an extremely efficient performance, scoring 15 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench. Ronald Roberts Jr. collected another double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds on the game, while Chris Wilson added 11 points and 6 assists in the contest. Senior guard Carl Jones had 10 points and 3 assists in his final home game for his career. Jones leaves behind a solid legacy as one of the best scorers in Saint Joseph's History. While he had his ups and downs throughout his career, Jones was truly a spark for the Hawks, and when on top of his game could carry the team. Jones led the team from a dark couple of seasons upon his arrival on Hawk Hill to a 20 win season last year, and another winning season this year. Jones will be sorely missed next year, but we wish him the best of luck in all future endeavors and thank him for all the memories. THE HAWK WILL NEVER DIE!
