Solo Home Runs Boost Phillies to Victory

The Phillies returned home tonight to again face the Red Sox, and squeaked out a win to move to within 1 game of .500 at 26-27.  Yet again it was a low scoring affair for the Phillies, but with the help of solid pitching the Phillies held on for the win.  The Phillies squeezed out a 4-3 win in the end, thanks to the help of Dom Brown, who provided comic relief by ripping his pants stealing a base early in the game.

Kyle Kendrick got the start and continued to be the Phillies second best starter behind Cliff Lee.  Kendrick tossed six innings while surrendering only 2 runs on 4 hits.  Antonio Bastardo came on to pitch a scoreless seventh, which was matched by Mike Adams in the eighth, before Jonathan Papelbon came on to nail down the win for the second night in a row against his former team, but not before allowing a run.
The Phillies sparing offense was powered by the long-ball tonight, but sticking with the trend of this season, they were all solo shots.  In all, the Phillies hit 4 solo home runs, one a piece from Ryan Howard and Erik Kratz, and 2 from Dom Brown.  It was Browns fourth home run in 3 days, and put him at 13 for the season.  Brown continues to steadily progress and is flashing some of the promise that kept the Phillies from trading him in the past.
The Phillies will close out their series with Boston tomorrow evening before welcoming the Brewers to Citizens Bank Park.  Jonathan Pettibone will receive the starting nod for the Phillies.
