Kendrick Gets Phillies Back On Track

After losing both games in a short series to the Indians, the Phillies returned home this evening to kick off a series with the lowly Marlins.  This series should be just what the Phillies need to get going, but with this team, you can't count on anything, that is except the solid early season performance of Kyle Kendrick (I know weird to say right?).  The Phillies topped a Double A team by a score of 7-2 tonight as they improved to 13-16 on the season.
Kendrick got the start for the Phillies tonight, and continued his impressive start to the 2013 season.  Kendrick tossed seven innings while allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits, while recording 5 strikeouts.  So far in 2013, Kendrick has been the staff ace, amassing a 2.43 ERA early in the season as he continues to look great on the mound.
Mike Adams came on to pitch the eighth for the Phillies, and tossed one perfect inning while striking out 2 batters.  Jonathan Papelbon was next to enter, finishing the game after the Phillies offense had made it a non-save situation.
The Phillies displayed what I guess could be considered some power at the plate tonight, hitting two home runs, although both home runs barely made it over the fence.  Dom Brown and Ryan Howard each smacked their fourth home run of the season, in a night in which both looked solid at the plate.
Brown went 3 for 4 on the evening, while collecting 2 RBI's and scoring 2 runs as well.  Howard worked some counts on the night, collecting 2 walks, going 1 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Michael Young contributed 2 hits on the night, one double, as he continues to look great early in 2013, with a .333 batting average.
In the field, the Phillies played error-less baseball, which would not normally come as too much of a shock, except for the fact that Delmon Young played right field tonight for the first time since 2007.  Young looked adequate enough in his time in the field, but mostly stood around as he went relatively untested, which was good for the Phillies.
The Phillies ended a two-game losing streak with tonight's win.  They now head into game two of the series against the Marlins tomorrow night, with Jonathan Pettibone making the start.
