Phillies Sign Zambrano

Are your eyes deceiving you?  No they are not, the Phillies have signed Carlos Zambrano to a minor league deal and he will report to extended spring training.  Most recently rumors had been swirling that Zambrano had agreed to terms with Atlantic League club the Long Island Ducks, however he apparently never signed the contract.

Zambrano is a former workhorse of a pitcher who has been known as a head case.  He has gotten into multiple altercations with umpires, opponents, teammates, and even a Gatorade dispenser over the years.  To put it lightly Zambrano is absolutely insane.  The man once "retired" because he got rocked by the Braves and then ejected for throwing at Chipper Jones.
What Zambrano does bring to the organization however, is solid career numbers along with essentially a no risk contract as it is a minor league deal.  Zambrano has 132 career wins to go along with a 3.66 ERA.  He also packs some power at the plate, something the Phillies lack, as he has 24 career home runs.  So maybe this works out and he helps the Phillies, or maybe it doesn't, but one thing is for sure, it should be interesting.
