Phillies Forget Bats, Fall to Pirates

In an all too familiar turn of events tonight, the Phillies forgot to bring their bats to Citizens Bank Park yet again as they fell to the Pirates by a score of 2-0.  The loss breaks up the exhilarating two game win streak the Phightins' had been on and drops their 2013 record to 9-12.

Cole Hamels made the start tonight for the Phillies and continues to improve after a rough first two starts in 2013.  Hamels threw eight solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while recording 6 strikeouts.  The Phillies were only trailing 1-0 entering the eighth, but in typical "Hollywood" Hamels fashion, Cole allowed a solo shot to give the Pirates the 2-0 lead.  Phillippe Aumont took over for the ninth inning and threw a shutout inning, but that made no difference with the lack of offense the Phillies displayed.
Leave it to the Phillies to make Jeff Locke and the rest of the Pirates pitching staff look like Cy Young, Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson all put together in one body.  The Phillies managed only a pathetic four hits in the entire game.  The poor offense squandered a solid pitching outing, but hey, at least Cole Hamels is used to getting no run support in the past, so what's new?
In the game Michael Young, Ryan Howard, John Mayberry Jr., and Laynce Nix each squeaked out one hit as the Phillies continue to pad opposing pitchers stats.  Howard's hit was a double, that unfortunately the old legs of Young couldn't get around the base paths quick enough to score on, stopping at third.  Mayberry hit a lead off triple in the fourth inning, but lets be honest we all knew the Phillies would find a way not to score, and that they did.
So after another dismal performance by the Phillies hitting, the Phillies now sit at 9-12 heading into tomorrow's contest against the Pirates with Roy Halladay getting the start.  On a brighter note, only four more games remain in Carlos Ruiz's suspension! So start the countdown as we near Choocha-Palooza!
