Bats Come Alive, Phillies Dominate Mets

Off to a sluggish start so far in 2013, the Phillies entered tonight's second game of the Mets series seeking to piece things together and pull out a win.  Things came together pretty well for the Phillies on the night as they dominated the Mets, 8-3.

Cliff Lee got the start on the mound tonight, after a stellar season debut last week.  Lee picked up right where he left off, dominating Mets hitters from the outset.  In all, Lee allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 8 hits, while also striking out 6 in eight and two-thirds innings.  Lee tried not to leave his chance at getting the win up to what has been a shaky bullpen so far this season, as he was efficient on the evening falling just shy of a complete game before Mike Adams came on to get the final out.  Lee also did some damage at the plate on the night, going 1 for 4 with an RBI.
The power was on full display for the Phillies tonight as they hit three home runs in the third inning.  Ryan Howard who went 1 for 4 on the night led off the third inning with a solo home run, his first of the season after suffering from the longest drought to begin a season for his career.  Howard was followed up by a solo shot from Micahel Young, before John Mayberry Jr. went deep after Dom Brown made the first out of the inning.
It was a great night at the plate for both Young and Mayberry.  Young went 3 for 4 as he hit a home run, triple, and single, falling only a double shy of the first cycle by a Phillies player since David Bell in 2004.  Young scored 2 runs while also collecting 2 RBI's on the evening as well.  Mayberry also showed some power on the night, going 2 for 4 with a double and home run.  Mayberry collected 3 RBI's while also scoring 2 runs on the night as the Phillies bats powered them to victory.
The 8-3 win by the Phillies tonight moves their record to 3-5 on the season, as Cliff Lee collected his second win of the season.  The Phillies will return to action tomorrow seeking their first series win of 2013 in the series finale against the Mets, with Kyle Kendrick getting the start.
