Phillies Dominated by Reds

The Phillies managed to get beat twice in one day today as they dropped both contests to the Reds.  The first game, a continuation of last nights game that was postponed after the top of the ninth due to rain, was ended quickly as the Reds walked off with a 1-0 win after only 9 minutes.  The second game, however, was a complete blowout by the Reds.

John Lannan (aka the guy from "Despicable Me") received the start for the Phillies.  After looking solid through his first few starts this season, Lannan was completely dominated by the Reds hitters.  In just one and two-thirds innings pitched, Lannan allowed six runs on 8 hits.  Things did not get any smoother for the Phillies after Lannan's early exit.
Raul Valdes came on to try and end the hitting clinic the Reds were putting on, but was unsuccessful.  Valdes was rocked for five runs on 6 hits in three and one-third innings pitched.  After Valdes got the hook, the Phillies pitchers finally stopped the bleeding as Chad Durbin threw two scoreless innings followed by a scoreless frame from Jeremy Horst, but it was too late for the Phillies.
Again the Phillies offense sputtered from the start, maintaining the funk they have been in since their trip to Miami.  The Phillies offense managed only 6 hits on the game as they scored 2 runs.
The Phillies were shutdown the entire evening until the eighth inning.  Freddy Galvis, who had replaced Jimmy Rollins earlier in the game, smacked a two-run home run.  It was Galvis' first of the year, as he has continued to look solid in the sparing at-bats he has received thus far in 2013.
The loss dropped the Phillies to 6-9 early on the season, a matter only made worse by the Braves hot play to take an early lead in the NL East.  The Phillies will look to get back on track tomorrow as they return to Citizens Bank Park to start a series with the Cardinals.  Cole Hamels will take the mound after he finally appeared to get on track in his previous start.
