Roy Halladay got the start, and did his best to add more fuel to the "He's Finished" fire that has been heating up more and more as the season progresses. Halladay tossed only two and one-third innings while surrendering 9 runs. I guess technically Halladay didn't get hit around, as he only surrendered 4 hits, but he also walked 4 and hit 2 batters. So after another rough outing, Halladay appears to be approaching the end of his career rapidly, unless he can work out the kinks very soon.
After Halladay allowed the Marlins to quickly put the game out of reach, it was time for mop-up duty from the terrible part of the Phillies bullpen. Raul Valdes came on to pitch three and one-third innings while allowing one run. Chad Durbin was next to pitch for the Phillies, throwing one and two-third innings while allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. Jeremy Horst finished off the terrible afternoon for Phillies on the mound, throwing one and two-third innings while surrendering 2 more runs to the Marlins.
While the pitchers were absolutely horrendous, the Phillies hitters did little to help in the batters box. The offense collected only 4 hits the entire game, and didn't plate a run until the eighth when they scored both their runs. I'll save you some time and not go into details about who got the very few hits this afternoon for the Phillies and just let you know, it was embarrassing.
So the Phillies now split the series with the Marlins after winning the first two games and appearing to be getting on track. Roy Halladay left us with even more unanswered questions and the offense took yet another day off. The Phillies will be back in action tomorrow as Cliff Lee gets the start against the Giants.
