To cheer you up, here's a picture of a dog in a tuxedo at his doggy school graduation. Read on!
Cole Hamels made the start, and tossed a great first six innings of shutout ball until he collapsed with the help of some suspect defense in the seventh. I'll save you from having to read all the gory details from the inning, but just know that Hamels finished the day with six and one-third innings pitched, while allowing 5 runs, 3 of which were earned. Justin De Fratus came on to pitch the last two-thirds of the seventh inning allowing the fifth run that was charged to Hamels' line to score, before finishing off the inning. Chad Durbin came on for the eighth inning and allowed 1 more run to the Nationals on 3 hits.
On the offensive side of things, the Phillies were simply atrocious, collecting only 5 hits all game. Ben Revere continued his slow progression at the plate with a 2 for 3 day, that included scoring the only Phillies run, courtesy of a balk. Oh, and to help with the lack of offense, the Phillies committed 3 errors in the field on the day to aid the Nationals even more in walking away with the win.
The Phillies now head to Boston on Memorial Day to face the Red Sox. Tyler Cloyd will make the start for the Phillies, and we can only hope the team doesn't forget their bats again.
