The 76ers came into Wednesday's game in Charlotte on a 3 game winning-streak. Against the worst team in the NBA, the Sixers thought they had a shot to stretch it 4. However, in a game that came down to the final minute, the Sixers couldn't finish it out and would lose 88-83.
Philadelphia played excellent defense in the first half and at one point held a 16 point lead in 2nd but they could not hold it. By halftime the Bobcats trailed by only 5 and would take the lead in the 3rd quarter. The game was in question until the very end as the Sixers held a 1 point led with under a minute. The Bobcat's Gerald Henderson hit a jumper coming off a screen to put Charlotte up by 1. On following possession, Evan Turner had his inbound pass stolen , and Henderson scored on the fast break Down by 3, Jrue couldn't hit a runner off the backboard to slim the lead and was forced to foul. The Bobcats would hit their foul shots to solidify the win, 88-83.
A major problem for the Sixer's in this game was Jrue Holiday's shooting. He was plain awful from the floor, 2 for 24 and only taking one foul shot. Philadelphia as a team shot an ugly 35% but did win the turnover battle as they forced 17. Jrue did finish with 8 assists but probably should have focus on distributing as at one point he was 1-21 from the floor, although I think you do need to admire his confidence even when his shot would not fall. Wilkins led the Sixers with 20 points and collected 9 boards. Turner finished with 14 but had 5 turnovers including the costly one with under a minute remaining Henderson led the Bobcats with 24 points, 4 in the final minute to take and expand the lead. Kemba Walker also had a nice game for Charlotte, scoring 17 and dishing out 10 assists.
The Sixers had started to play well, winning 7 of their last 11 before tonight yet they still managed to lose to the team with the worst record in the NBA. The Sixers play the playoff bound Hawks in Atlanta on Friday, followed by a game against the Heat. They have a tough schedule remaining, playing 5 games against playoff teams, but maybe that's not a bad thing if it helps their draft position.
