Well I don't know about you but I haven't seen something from Philly take a beating this bad since Rocky Balboa's first fight against Clubber Lang (Mr. T). The Phillies got absolutely hammered tonight by a score of 14 to 2, courtesy of seven Indians home runs.
After turning in two consecutive good starts, Roy Halladay decided to scare every Phillies fan yet again with where his career stands, as he threw three and two-thirds innings while allowing 8 earned runs and 3 home runs. To put this as nicely as possible, Halladay was beat to a bloody pulp in an embarrassment of an outing.
Things didn't go any better for the Phillies bullpen as two relievers you can always count on to give up a few runs did just that. Chad Durbin pitched one and one-third innings while allowing 4 runs and 2 home runs. Raul Valdes was next in line for a spanking, as he threw two innings while allowing 2 runs on 2 home runs. Phillippe Aumont finally stopped the bleeding in the eighth, throwing one scoreless inning, but not before loading the bases.
The Phillies offense was pretty lackluster on the night, scoring only 2 runs on 5 hits, however, the offense would have had to score a few touchdowns in order to keep up with what the Indians were doing to the Phillies pitching. Chase Utley went 1 for 3 on the night while also hitting his fifth home run of the season, as he continues to bounce back from a couple of injury plagued seasons.
In pretty much the only positive of the night, Delmon Young made his Phillies debut. Young went 2 for 3 on the evening as the designated hitter, hitting a home run in his first at bat as a Phillie. The interesting thing will be when we get to see Young's suspect fielding abilities, which may happen as early as tomorrow.
The Phillies will wrap up this short stories with the Indians tomorrow before returning home to face the Marlins for four games. Cliff Lee will get the starting nod for the Phillies, looking for his third win of the season.
