Phillies Drop Crucial Series to Mets

At a terrible time, as the trade deadline approaches, the Phillies dropped a series to the lowly Mets. After a high scoring win on Friday, and a comeback that fell just short yesterday, the Phillies were shutdown by the Mets and their young Ace, Matt Harvey by a score of 5 to 0.
Don't be sad, look at my puppy!
Cliff Lee made the start today for the Phillies and was thoroughly smacked around in his six innings pitched, allowing five runs and three home runs on the afternoon. Antonio Bastardo and Jonathan Papelbon stopped the bleeding in the seventh and eighth respectively, but that doesn't matter when your offense musters up all of four hits on the afternoon.
Jimmy Rollins, Michael Young, Chase Utley and Delmon Young each recorded one hit on the day, with D. Young's being the only hit for extra bases as he managed a double off of Harvey in the seventh. The offense to put it lightly was absolutely atrocious, as was the starting pitching for the Phillies, as they now fall to 49-50 on the season.
So now the Phillies have lost a crucial series as they head to a day off before facing two tough road series against the Cardinals and the Tigers. With the trade deadline fast approaching, this series loss may have sealed the Phillies fate as sellers in 2013, but only time will tell what Ruben has up his sleeves.
