Phillies Top Struggling Yankees

The Phillies bats continued to be lively today as they topped the struggling Yankees, 10-5.  Roy Halladay got the starting nod for the Phillies, in his second Grapefruit League appearance.  Halladay had a decent outing but was not quite as sharp as his previous start.
He pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed a single run while striking out 3.  While it was believed Halladay was supposed to pitch 3 innings today, his outing was cut short as he was a little more erratic than usual and reached the pitch count the Phillies wanted him to hit a little early.  Cesar Jimenez finished off the third inning for Halladay, striking out 2.  Phillippe Aumont was the next Phillie to take the mound and continued to turn heads in Spring Training.  The big right-hander, who will soon leave camp to pitch for Team Canada in the World Baseball Class pitched one scoreless inning and showed great command in his outing.  Aumont continued to make a strong case to be in the Opening Day bullpen for the Phillies, while another member of the bullpen, whose spot is already locked up, got shelled again.  Mr. Leadership himself, Jonathan Papelbon, allowed 2 runs in a single inning pitched.  While this was nowhere close to a good performance, it was still better than his last outing and lowered his spring ERA to a whopping 43.20.  Raul Valdes took over for Papelbon and allowed 2 runs in two innings on the mound.  The game was finished off by Rodrigo Lopez who pitched two scoreless innings against a Yankees club that has struggled so far this spring.  While there was mixed results on the mound, the Phillies continued to look strong at the plate.
The Phillies scored 10 runs on the day off of 10 hits and with the assistance of 4 Yankees errors in the field.  Jimmy Rollins led off for the Phillies today and went 1 for 2 with a double and 2 walks, in his final appearance before departing for the WBC.  Rollins was replaced in the game by Freddy Galvis who continued his strong spring thus far with a 1 for 2 day, raising his average to .357.    Young third base prospect Cody Asche had a fine day after relieving Michael Young, going 2 for 2.  Finally, John Mayberry Jr., had a 1 for 3 outing but collected 3 RBI's on the day to help lead the Phillies to their third win of Grapefruit League play, and drop the Yankees to 1-7 so far this spring.  Things are beginning to look up for this Phillies squad this spring, but only time will tell if they can carry this hitting over to the regular season.  The Phillies will return to action tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays.  Go Phils!
